Why the Patient decided to undergo the CRPS Treatment in Italy

This patient had suffered from CRPS for 8 years when she came to us. However, Neridronate was the first treatment she had ever tried for it. She was a strong believer of alternative medicines and had never wanted to try the available options in the USA such as Ketamine or nerve blocks. She had been following physical therapy for all those years and tried methods such as acupuncture and mirror therapy. Acupuncture seemed to have helped her in dealing with the pain all those years, until she reached a point in which she wanted to heal the pain instead of just dealing with it. She did her research and found Neridronate online. The treatment not having any side effects and being a much less aggressive option as the one proposed in her country, she decided to come to Italy.

Medical treatment the Patient underwent in Italy

Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) is a severely painful and disabling disease for which a multitude of therapeutic interventions have been proposed. In the past two decades, only Bisphosphonates gained credibility. In recent years, more convincing evidence has become available on the use of Parenteral Neridronate. Since 2014, this drug is registered and marketed in Italy for the treatment of CRPS. To date, the only therapeutic schedule that is recognized to be able to confer benefit is the intravenous (IV) administration of 100 mg given 4 times.

3 sessions Massotherapy Rehabilitation Treatment with Physiotherapist.
Rehabilitation therapy is a full body workout which focuses on the general wellbeing of the body, to help the affected limb get back to its normal self.

7 days Light Therapy (in hotel room, 30+ more minutes each day)
30 minutes or more of usage of the MTI Light Therapy reduces inflammation, increase micro-circulation, relax nerves and muscles, reduces pain transmission, accelerates healing, regenerates cells, and promotes cells activation.

Daily Report

DAY 1: Arrival at the Venice airport, greeted by her Patient Manager, followed by check-in at her Hotel in Verona. Briefing focused on the next days.

DAY 2: Morning pick-up by her Patient Manager, 1st visit with the Rheumatologist Professor, 1st Rehabilitation session, and 1st infusions. The patient is impressed with the knowledge of our physical therapist, she is looking forward to the next 2 sessions.

DAY 3: Morning pick-up by her Patient Manager, 2nd infusions. Tourism in Verona.

DAY 4: Morning pick-up by her Patient Manager, 2nd Rehabilitation session and 3rd infusions.

DAY 5: Tourism in Venice all day with Gondola ride!

DAY 6: Morning pick-up by her Patient Manager, 3rd Rehabilitation session, 4th infusions and 2nd visit with the Rheumatologist Professor.

DAY 7: Rest day in the hotel, in contact with her Patient Manager.

DAY 8: Pick-up by her Patient Manager, check-out and drop-off at the Venice airport for her trip back home.

Follow up

JANUARY 2021 (4 months after Neridronate treatment): Patient reports great improvement in her pain levels, before the treatment she noticed it being at 6-7/10 daily, and she feels they are at 4/10 now. The swelling of her foot has drastically gone down, she sent a photo which showed a before/after that was incredible.

MARCH 2021(6 months after Neridronate treatment): The patient is ecstatic: her pain levels are currently around 1-2/10 and the swelling is now completely gone.

AUGUST 2022 (2 years after Neridronate treatment): During a call for the patient’s birthday, 2 years after her treatment, she confirms to the team that her situation has not changed: her pain levels are still at their lowest, with some days in which she does not even feel pain at all. She does not go to the acupuncture sessions anymore as she does not feel the need to. She has had some flares-up when walking for a whole day, but the pain never goes above 5/10 and is very bearable.

Conclusion

This is an ideal outcome for this type of case. This lady had suffered from CRPS for 8 years, and after treatment was suddenly at a 1/10 kind of pain level, which was unthinkable for her. Her physical therapist was specialized in chronic pain which helped her continue what she had learned in Italy with our specialist, and allow her to maintain very low pain levels and get back to her life.
