Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) is a severely painful and disabling disease for which a multitude of therapeutic interventions have been proposed. In the past two decades, only Bisphosphonates gained credibility. In recent years, more convincing evidence has become available on the use of Parenteral Neridronate. Since 2014, this drug is registered and marketed in Italy for the treatment of CRPS. To date, the only therapeutic schedule that is recognized to be able to confer benefit is the intravenous (IV) administration of 100 mg given 4 times.

Daily Report

DAY 1: Arrival with is mother at the Venezia airport, greeted by his Patient Manager, followed by check-in at their Hotel in Verona. Briefing focused on the next days.

DAY 2: Rest day in the hotel, in contact with his Patient Manager.

DAY 3: Morning pick-up by his Patient Manager, 1st visit with the Rheumatologist Professor, 1st Rehabilitation session, and 1st infusions. Tourism in Verona.

DAY 4: Morning pick-up by his Patient Manager, 2nd infusions.

DAY 5: Morning pick-up by his Patient Manager, 2nd Rehabilitation session and 3rd infusions.

DAY 6: DAY 7: Morning pick-up by his Patient Manager, 3rd Rehabilitation session, 4th infusions and 2nd visit with the Rheumatologist Professor. Tourism in Lake Garda.

DAY 7: Pick-up by his Patient Manager, check-out and drop-off at the Venice airport for their trip back home.

Follow up

JANUARY 2023 (3 months after Neridronate treatment): The patient is finally able to touch his leg without being in excruciating pain. He says his pain levels are lowering every week that passes.

APRIL 2023 (6 months after Neridronate treatment): Patients says he is in complete remission, the swelling and pain have completely disappeared.

AUGUST 2023 (10 months after Neridronate treatment): Patient confirms his remission and him and his mom are expressing gratitude for the program.

Conclusion

This patient was lucky to be able to get access to the treatment this quickly after the onset of his CRPS. This is why a concrete diagnosis is essential as soon as possible, in order to understand which treatment is most appropriate. This 18 years old boy now has a full life ahead, free of CRPS.
