Why the Patient decided to undergo the CRPS Treatment in Italy

This patient was diagnosed 4 months in her CRPS, which is quite fast compared to other patients and their experiences. She was lucky enough to find an orthopedic surgeon who recognized it when the symptoms were still mild.
She found us through our Facebook Group. She had been researching treatment options online and when she saw us, she read more about the treatment and contacted us. Her doctor seemed interested as well and gave his availability for the follow-up after the treatment, which is very important and helps us track a patient’s improvements.  

Medical treatment the Patient underwent in Italy

Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) is a severely painful and disabling disease for which a multitude of therapeutic interventions have been proposed. In the past two decades, only Bisphosphonates gained credibility. In recent years, more convincing evidence has become available on the use of Parenteral Neridronate. Since 2014, this drug is registered and marketed in Italy for the treatment of CRPS. To date, the only therapeutic schedule that is recognized to be able to confer benefit is the intravenous (IV) administration of 100 mg given 4 times.

4 Clodronate infusions

3 sessions Neuromuscular Rehabilitation Treatment Treatment with Physiotherapist.

Daily Report

DAY 1: Arrival at the Venice airport, greeted by her Patient Manager, followed by check-in at her Hotel in Verona. Briefing focused on the next days.

DAY 2: Rest day in the hotel, in contact with her Patient Manager.

DAY 3: Morning pick-up by her Patient Manager, 1st visit with the Rheumatologist Professor, 1st Rehabilitation session, and 1st infusions.

DAY 4: Morning pick-up by her Patient Manager, 2nd infusions.

DAY 5: Rest day in the hotel, in contact with her Patient Manager.

DAY 6: Morning pick-up by her Patient Manager, 2nd Rehabilitation session and 3rd infusions.

DAY 7: Morning pick-up by her Patient Manager, 3rd Rehabilitation session, 4th infusions and 2nd visit with the Rheumatologist Professor.

DAY 8: Sightseeing in Lake Garda with the Patient Manager.

DAY 9: Pick-up by her Patient Manager, check-out, and drop-off at the Venice airport for her trip back home.

Follow up

DECEMBER 2023 (2 months after Neridronate treatment): The patient reported that the discoloration she was experiencing is getting better, she feels like there is more circulation in her arm and hand. She can use her hand at times without straining herself, she can hold things better without dropping them. Pain levels have dropped from a constant 9/10 to a 6/10.

FEBRUARY 2024 (5 months after Neridronate treatment): The patient reported that her swelling is completely gone, and she has not had any more discoloration for a month now. Her range of motion is slowly coming back, she can lift her arm and bend it behind her head, which is amazing, since she was not able to do so months ago. She is scheduled to go back to work in a couple of weeks, she is very excited about it!

MARCH 2024 (5 months after Neridronate treatment): We spoke right after the Easter Holidays and she was so happy to show us that she can not only bend her arm in all directions, but also bear weight on it and use it as she pleases! She says that she is almost back to 100% mobility and her pain levels are around 1-2/10, which is impressive. She is being followed by a Physical Therapist and keeps working hard to achieve complete remission from this illness.

Conclusion

When the patient arrived, her range of motion was very limited, and it was quite hard to work on the arm and hand due to the sensitivity and the pain that would derive from it. After only 5 months, the patient saw amazing results thanks to the treatment coupled with the PT sessions and the side therapies. She continues to work hard every single day and it pays off, she is almost completely back to normal with pain that, on bad days, never goes over a 2/10, and if it happens, lasts only some moments as opposed to days or weeks. She could not be more happy and will update us further in the following months.
