Symptoms:Shooting pain; change of temperature; skin is red and shiny; abnormal hair growth, muscle weakness. Pain levels are described at 8/10, daily.

Why the Patient decided to undergo the CRPS Treatment in Italy

This patient was a policeman and got shot on duty in 2021. It led to 3 different surgeries on his right leg. CRPS started after the 3rd surgery, and the gentleman was in pain for 11 months before a neurologist finally diagnosed him. He found out about Neridronate shortly after, and started organizing his treatment trip.

Medical treatment the Patient underwent in Italy

Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) is a severely painful and disabling disease for which a multitude of therapeutic interventions have been proposed. In the past two decades, only Bisphosphonates gained credibility. In recent years, more convincing evidence has become available on the use of Parenteral Neridronate. Since 2014, this drug is registered and marketed in Italy for the treatment of CRPS. To date, the only therapeutic schedule that is recognized to be able to confer benefit is the intravenous (IV) administration of 100 mg given 4 times.

4 Clodronate infusions (100mg, I.v. in saline Solution 0,9% 250 ml)

3 sessions Neuromuscular Rehabilitation Treatment Treatment with Physiotherapist.

Daily Report

DAY 1: Arrival at the Venice airport, greeted by his Patient Manager, followed by check-in at his Hotel in Verona. Briefing focused on the next days.

DAY 2: Rest day in the hotel, in contact with his Patient Manager.

DAY 3: Morning pick-up by his Patient Manager, 1st visit with the Rheumatologist Professor, 1st Rehabilitation session, and 1st infusions.

DAY 4: Morning pick-up by his Patient Manager, 2nd infusions.

DAY 5: Morning pick-up by his Patient Manager, 2nd Rehabilitation session and 3rd infusions.

DAY 6: Rest day in the hotel, in contact with his Patient Manager.

DAY 7: Morning pick-up by his Patient Manager, 3rd Rehabilitation session, 4th infusions and 2nd visit with the Rheumatologist Professor.

DAY 8: Pick-up by his Patient Manager, check-out, and drop-off at the Venice airport for his trip back home.

Follow up

JUNE 2023 (3 months after Neridronate treatment): the patient reports very promising improvements on all symptoms, including pain levels, which he places at 5/10 daily.

SEPTEMBER 2023 (6 months after Neridronate treatment): the patient refers being in full remission of all symptoms. He is back to work now, and although he decided to be transferred in another unit in more of a bureaucratic picture, he is happy to be back in his environment.

MARCH 2024 (a year after Neridronate treatment): the patient is still in full remission and announces his wife’s pregnancy to us during our call!

Conclusion

Remission in a 2 years CRPS case is a very ideal outcome. This patient had been going to physical therapy since the original incident, which helped him a lot even post-treatment to regain his lost mobility.
